This amazing piece (by one of my favorite musicians of all time) is deticated to Duke Elington (hens the name "open letter to duke"). A lot of musicians deticated their pieces to Elington. one of the most famous examples (except this one) is Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder. Duke Elington was a pianist and a big band leader and if you hadn`t heard his music yet than you definitaly should as soon as you finish hearing this one.Thank you for readin and enjoy the music!

One of those life changing tunes.... impossible to hear this one time and be the same person afterward.

Mingus was in the studio working on this right around the same time that Coltrane was recording "Giant Steps". Talk about convergent evolution. If you ask me though, it almost sounds as if Trane ripped some licks from this track ;)
