Hang me oh hang me
I’ll be dead and gone
Hang me oh hang me
I’ll be dead and gone
Wouldn’t mind the hanging
But the laying in the grave so long
Poor boy
I’ve been all around this world
I’ve been all around Cape Girardeau
Parts of Arkansas
All around Cape Girardeau
Parts of Arkansas
Got so goddamn hungry
I could hide behind a straw
I’ve been all around this world
Went up on a mountain
There I made my stand
Went up on a mountain
There I made my stand
Rifle on my shoulder
And a dagger in my hand
Poor boy
I’ve been all around this world
Hang me oh hang me
I’ll be dead and gone
Hang me oh hang me
I’ll be dead and gone
Wouldn’t mind the hanging
But the laying in the grave so long
Poor boy
I’ve been all around this world
Put the rope around my neck
Hung me up so high
Put the rope around my neck
Hung me up so high
Last words I heard him say:
Won’t be long now 'fore you die
Poor boy
I’ve been all around this world
Hang me oh hang me
And I’ll be dead and gone
Hang me oh hang me
I’ll be dead and gone
Wouldn’t mind the hanging
But the laying in the grave so long
Poor boy
I’ve been all around this world
Found this from Inside Llewyn Davis. As much I love this original, I prefer the film’s version, I find the film’s version more personal. Probably because I listened to Oscar Isaac’s version in context knowing the character’s struggle.
one of my folk idols. I was lucky to see him a couple years before his death. A small theater in Stayton Oregon. A local luthier had connections I guess. 16 people in a room that would hold maybe 30. Folding chairs , a stage and Dave Van Ronk. One of my musical treasures for sure.
