When I was an infant in my mothers arms
I would watch the starlight in her face
Cause I was reaching out to understand the cosmic charm
I am just a starchild born in space
Way up high above the sky all that beauty passes by
Whole worlds still unknown
And out beyond the blue there’s a place for people too
It’s time for us to go
I have seen the sun shine bright in paradise
I have been there, I have seen it
Everywhere space people stare through ageless eyes
I have seen them, I believe it
Way up high above the sky all that beauty passes by
Whole worlds still unknown
And out beyond the blue there’s a place for people too
It’s time for us to go
[Bridge}
We have time (In my dreams)
Time and space
While we’re young (Floating free)
We can chase
The stars
Searching for the magic in the universe
Guided by the stars that light my way
I have seen the sun shine bright in paradise
I am just a starchild born in space
If you want to go with me I’ll take you there
I’ve been shown these secrets face to face
I have seen the sun shine bright in paradise
I am just a starchild born in space

Night shift, Girling suspension (AKA damper) factory, Springvale Cwmbran, 1981 this album on my cassette player on constantly along with Dare by the Human while I was on 10 Traub lathes making damper rods for MkIV Ford Cortinas at 21 years of age. Very happy times, start of a very steep learning curve...….Now 60 this year!
With this awesome track I am happily lost again in the beautiful ether of their early work just as I was in 1981.They were so creative, innovative and magical, they should never have strayed so far from their early Jazz-Funk passion and roots.
I was 18 when this came out but didnt appreciate how great these guys were at the time......then they went downhill in my opinion....all poppy and commercial...shame really.........
I was 13 in 1981 and somehow I had this song on a 45 RPM, I lived on a small farm out in the middle of nowhere and I would play this song and think about the future, Now I am a 51 year old man, listening to this song, living at the beach and a full life lived well behind me, life is amazing
