I believe standing with his wife is the great Jimmy Yancey, sometimes credited a the father of Boogie Woogie. My father in law played drums for The Salty Dogs trad jazz band in the 50s. While in Chicago the band sought out Mr. Yancey and found him. They were invited in, served refreshments by his wife while she and Jimmy entertained them. One of the band members stated they were going to look for some of his records. Mr. Yancey then produced a box filled with sides that the band purchased. Last year, my father in law gave them to me.

i do not think any jazz pianist blues pianist did surpass or has surpassed meade lux lewis the tempo of this piece artculation of phrase and dynamics of accent reveal and demonstrate enormous natural virtuosity it is not the same as tatums tiger rag but just as astonishing and musically much more powerfull think of beethoven and the slamming and banging in many of his piano sonatas at one time lewis and tatum both played in the same club and each admired the other bit of a hard act to follow.

I remember seeing for the first time a clip of Meade playing. He just blew me away. Love his music so much.

My first choice is Meade Lux Lewis over Cow Cow Davenport. Both are a thrill.
