I see it the other way around.. the chorus vocals fucking suck! This song would be awesome if not for those. The chorus lyrics really drag it down.

It gives the lyrics in particular, extra character to give the song more expression. Sonically it could sound better to growl or grunt a verse, clean vox on the chorus. Or, vice-versa. All depends on what the artist is trying to achieve.
