It seems like just the other day was grade nine
Life keeps flyin' and I’m tryin' to make time
For all of my people or at least to say hi
I am a lion and I live for my pride
Where I’m from we work and don’t quit
Till the job gets done we seize the moment
So when it’s all over and we look back
We can tell our grandkids we did that
So drive nice cars and shoot for the stars
But never forget where your home roots are
You could be an Edison even a Mozart
Whatever you choose I know that you’ll go far
Go hard never let nobody you bring down
I’m am still with you when I am not around
Stand your ground and shine like a centerpiece
I’ll remember you you remember me
Though we’ll go our separate ways
In my heart is where you’ll stay
I know where I’m from
I know where I’m from
I know some things have to change
But this one thing stays the same
I know where I’m from
I know where I’m from
Life is a game and I’m in it to win
I still remember things I was taught as a kid
My teacher’s advice echoin' in my head
Don’t litter treat the environment with respect
There more to life than cash money and cheques
Try not to complain someone always has less
Don’t be afraid because you’re leavin' the nest
You were trained for this and you will progress
Life has struggles the troubles will come
But there’s nothing you can’t handle or rise above
These are the trials that define you and make you
You will be amazed where good manners can take you
Stay true and be careful who you hang with
Some are bad news and others are plain dangerous
There’s a time and place for bad language
I hope the smile on your face never changes
Though we’ll go our separate ways
In my heart is where you’ll stay
I know where I’m from
I know where I’m from
I know some things have to change
But this one thing stays the same
I know where I’m from
I know where I’m from
No matter where I go in my heart I know
Where I came from I will maintain control
From street hockey to Yahtzee Nintendo to soccer
Scary movies and the pictures in my locker
I have regrets too gettin' drunk lettin' loose
Lesson learned though I know it’s not an excuse
I was walking down the wrong road a lot of times
At times I was just a failure in my eyes
But that’s fine cause you gota' be low
To appreciate highs how else would you know?
And by high I mean life not drugs
I don’t need chemicals I thrive on love
But hey I don’t wanna' preach I just want you to be
Happy take it however you please
As for the memories those I will cherish
Thank you teachers students and parents
Though we’ll go our separate ways
In my heart is where you’ll stay
I know where I’m from
I know where I’m from
I know some things have to change
But this one thing stays the same
I know where I’m from
I know where I’m from
